Research & Development

We at Moshon Data are a small team of people that pride ourselves on having the ideas that make a difference in the highly technical, unique and specialist area of vehicle ADAS testing and development.

R&D Plays a significant part in the development of all our ideas – from conception to end products.  From designs that make the engineers work just that little bit easier every day, to designs that make the impossible test possible.  Whether it’s soft vehicle targets - so you don’t have to impact and damage real vehicles during each test - or making it possible to carry out tests during the day that could only otherwise be done at night - we have the solution for you.

We recognise that engineers cope every day with huge shortfalls of available products in a world that is catered for by only a handful of world-beating specialist technology suppliers. Our efforts focussed by using our specialist industry knowledge. Taking a step back from the test, we make an insightful look into the way jobs are performed every day, re-thinking ways to make each test possible safely, in a wider range of scenarios and making them simpler to do in the field.

‘Sensor awareness’ is a key focal point for everything we design with respect to Radar reflectivity, IR reflectivity, ultrasonics and radio waves.  Not often considered is that the soft target products used for ADAS testing not only have to represent the real-world object visually but must also represent it in the same way as its real-world counterpart from the eye of the vehicle sensor. Some objects must appear large, others blend into the background as though invisible. To achieve this, many different reflective and absorbent materials are chosen in order to tune and characterise each target appropriate to the real-world object it represents.

An example of our approach to this can be found in one of our recent designs – the MD-Wall.

MD-Wall

The design brief for this was to create a soft obstruction wall that can be impacted yet simulate as close as possible a real wall from the perspective of each vehicle sensor. In order to perfect our MD-Wall design, we decided to construct a ‘real wall’ to a modern UK design standard on an airfield used for AEB testing away from the interference of other obstacles, then take Radar Cross-section (RCS) readings of both the real-wall and our soft wall. Looking at the results we were able to determine the materials needed in order to perfect the ‘sensor aware’ simulation of a real wall.  More about this can be found in a report located here…  REPORT

As BSI/ISO experts in this highly unique and specialised area of work, we pride ourselves on being in the perfect position to provide input into setting the standards that others will follow.
